stock midpipes with punched out cats are vastly inferior to a properly designed testpipe. Again, I think you are confusing back pressure with exhaust velocity. As you know, an engine is an air pump. The better it flows, the more power you make. It seems contrary that introducing a restriction will make more power, doesn't it? With punched out cats you have exhaust dumping into a much larger cross sectional area where the cats once resided. This cause much unwanted turbulence and reduction in velocity, and therefore reduced scavenging.
